Her diagnosis was breast carcinoma in 1989. Handler was raised in the family of a Reform Judaism family. Her father was Jewish. Handler was born into an area that was nice, and she had a very happy childhood. Handler moved to Los Angeles when she was 19, in order to pursue a career in acting. Handler began her career as an actress in order to support her. Her ability to tell stories was uncovered as she reached the age of 21. Handler then decided to make a full-time commitment to stand-up comedy. Handler's stand-up career began when she was part of the all-female Oxygen TV cast in the hidden camera/practical comedy reality series Girls Behaving Unsteadily. From 2002 until 2005, the show aired. The host appeared on numerous shows including Weekends at D.L. The Bernie Mac Show The Practice as well as My Wife and Kids.
